WOW - I've been using and promoting Startron for years. I used to sell outdoor power equipment. Hmm, maybe the best additive is no additive. Conventional wisdom has been to run your system dry but that seems problematic in a different way. Great work again!

I dunno, I feel there is something missing. I have tried various brands myself in the past and the only one that I have tried that doesn't have me giving an overhaul to the fuel system every spring is Seafoam. Usually one can in the tank, one last carb fill up and run dry before storage does the trick. Top off the tank and closing the breather and it's good for the winter.

The cleverness, high production values and straightup artistry of FortNine's offerings just takes my breath away. Just consider the little incidentals in this video like the creepy horror movie music and its murder mystery tropes...For a look at fuel additives? That's some next level Cannes Film Festival finesse there. If Ryan and Aneesh aren't struggling to find enough spots to stow all their awards, then something's wrong.

Ethanol gas is BAD. It takes only a little over a month for the gasoline and ethanol to start to separate. Remember, ethanol; is alcohol. You might as well pour a bottle of scotch in your gas tank. Alcohol is WATER based, while gasoline is PETROLEUM based. In short, they simply do not mix. Leaving ethanol gas in your tank for more than a month is just asking for it, and guarantee you will get it. None of these "stabilizers" will do anything. Guaranteed. Yes some will make the problem worse. NEVER store you bike with fuel in the tank whether it is real gasoline (or petrol, as they call it in the UK) or ethanol. Even real gasoline will not last several months. It does not break down like an ethanol/gasoline mix, but the liquid part of the gasoline evaporates and leaves the gum and varnish behind, making a real mess. Fortunately I don't live in a place where I have to store bikes for months. But I do store some of them for a while, because I have six, and just can't ride all of them often enough. There are two ways to deal with this (my bikes are all carbureted, which makes things a lot easier) After gas has been a motorcycle tank for a month, I drain it out and pour it in my car. Then I take a gas can full of new gas and pour it in. I start the bike up and let it run long enough to burn up the old gas in the carb. Bike is now good for another month. I like to start my bikes up every once in a while, even if I'm not going to ride them. I don't believe an engine should sit there for an extended time without being ran. Parts that are designed to be moved should be moved. Doing it this way assures you have good gas in your bike so you can hop on it and ride it at a moments notice. There is another way if you are pretty sure you are not going to be riding it for some time. Here in the U.S. we can get some stuff called TruFuel. I'm not really sure what it is exactly, other than it is super expensive ($20 a gallon) and does not contain ethanol. It also has a lifespan of 2 years. I do know that naptha is one of it's ingredients, and it has an octane rating of about 95. And bikes run fine on it. Way too expensive to actually use for riding, but it makes a great storage fuel. But to use it, you have to COMPLETELY drain your fuel system, and that means removing the tank and turning it upside down. It's the only way to get ALL the fuel out of it, and even a tiny amount of ethanol will do a major amount of damage. Once the tank is COMPLETELY empty, put it back on the bike, pour in a gallon of TruFuel, start the bike, and let it run for about 15 minutes. That's long enough to remove all the ethanol/gas/petrol from the carburetors/fuel lines/and EFI systems. TruFuel will NOT damage the fuel system, and will allow you to start the bike up from time to time. When it comes time to go riding again, just finish filling up the tank with whatever you use for fuel. Just don't leave it in there for more than a month. I have a 5 gallon gas can, and just about every time I put gas in my car, I first drain the gas out of a bike, pour it in the car, then take the gas can to the station with me and refill it with gas. When I get back home, I pour that new gas into the bike I drained the old gas out of. Not that big of a deal if you can remember to do it when you know you are going to the gas station anyway.

Interesting stuff. Being in North Idaho there is always down time for our toys. Before the days of ethanol it was never really an issue. Best options: Empty the tank and run it till it shuts off. Use ethanol free gas. Don't add crap to your tank. Should also drain oil before storage.

Costco 91 has no ethanol in it as per their pumps. It is listed as a "Top Tier" gas so they would only be getting it from a couple of suppliers if so. Fuel consumption is not a sign of how "good" gas is. Usually if there's ethanol in the fuel your consumption will go up.

So per this video test, buy Sta-bile brand (as usual) and dont worry. Thats my experience for 30 years living in corn country where the pump gas sucks. If its got accessible carb drains and fuel shut off, run the stabil thru then shut off and drain the carbs or run the EFI out till the motor stops. Better yet- put in some off road/collector car/non-oxy gas in before all of this, and still add stabil.

Everything you've discussed happened to me. I hope not the rusting but bike would not start with stabil, if only I shook the tank to mix it prior to. I normally only do it during adding but now will shake the tank to help mix on first start after long storage. Your science explanations are a heaven sent.

Poor Seafoam. Great video as always, but Seafoam shouldn't be in the list because you're using it wrong. And if someone use's it wrong then... Not the product's fault. - Seafoam is meant to be run through an engine, not to stabilize the fuel of an unused vehicle; its stabilization is a tertiary effect at best. Long term fuel stabilization is not the maker's intent. - What it DOES do magnificently is clear carbon deposits. The proper way to use it is as a flush for the cylinders and combustion pathways. After maybe 30 minutes of work you clear it all out. You CAN leave it in, but that would be for a currently running machine, not storage, as it requires combustion to do its job properly. It's good to know though that it's def not a long term stabilizer, but again... not it's purpose, shouldn't be in the test.
